The Evidence

Multipayer convening has returned strong gains in Michigan. For example:

1. Michigan’s MAPCP demonstration yielded an ROI of over 4:1 when compared to PCM practices and over 2:1 when compared to non-PCMH practices in a difference of differences analysis conducted by the Research Triangle Institute.  Evaluation of the Multi-Payer Advanced Primary Care Practice (MAPCP) Demonstration

2. Our assessment of the Best-performing Michigan Practices on ED and Inpatient Use identified six key process characteristics.

  1. Physician Engagement as a Precursor of Patient Engagement
  2. Co-located, Engaged Teams
  3. Offloading Routine Administrative Tasks
  4. Patient Responsiveness
  5. Performance Report
  6. Triggers to Identify Patients Who Would Benefit from Interventions
